We've entered what seems like an endless heat wave here in Dallas with temperatures already forecast to sail past 100 degrees this week. It has me nostalgic for the best time I've ever spent on the beach: with friends and family in Gulf Shores, AL for Melanie and Cale's wedding two years ago. Not only was this truly the best and most enjoyable wedding event I've been to, it was for many: guests wore comfortable linen suits and summer dresses and went barefoot in the sand; the weather was perfect and breezy; the crab boil that followed with lots of artisan home brew beer varieties from the groom and his friends; it all added up to a great day for all. That, and it was a great opportunity for fun, unique floral that reflected the bride's love for the beach and all its natural surroundings.
We started with lots of creamy white and ivory shades, including Vendela roses, Dendrobium orchids in both white and chartreuse, white Freesia, white Tulips, mini Calla, and button mums:
These were the parts we had brought in, but what really made this wedding floral special were the parts collected in the wild from the local woods and meadows: pine tips, palm fronds, bracken, scrub oak branches, and mosses were all gathered by hand--in a responsible manner--from the native woods around the beach, making this bouquet indigenous to the area and one-of-a-kind for this beach-loving bride.
Our lovely Maid of Honor carried a matching, but slightly smaller version of the bride's bouquet (she's holding both in this photo). Boutonnieres were made of a solitary Vendela rose, Dendrobium bud stem, native greenery, and wrapped with palm fronds so that no artificial material was visible. Corsages were a slightly fuller, more feminine version:
Table arrangements were done in the same fresh, fun, informal manner, with lots of palm, pine, and bracken with the fragrant Roses, Freesia and Tulips, and accented with sliced lemons in the vases to accentuate the summery feel:
We had a fantastic time
celebrating this most fun loving, creative couple, and when all the
fanfare ended, we had the crashing waves, fresh breeze, and serene
beauty of the ocean to accompany a long evening of love and laughter.
This was an event every guest will remember, and the fabulous couple, too!

The flowers look super pretty! A wedding at a beach... sounds like such a sweet event; and from the looks of the pictures, it is. Celebrating a special event far from the city seems like the perfect getaway...
